Golf Cart Cruise

Most of Port Aransas is golf cart accessible for your golf cart cruise.

You can pretty much park your car for your entire beach vacation trip and cruise your golf cart rental the entire time. It is definitely the way to go AND you don’t get your car or truck all sandy.

However, you cannot drive golf carts down state highway 361. It sounds self-explanatory but people do it all the time. It’s like a $500 ticket so just don’t do it. That quick little golf cart cruise over to Whataburger is NOT worth it. Take 9th St. the back road to get there instead. 9th St is also the best way to get to the shops and restaurants at the Shops of Port A Shopping Center.

Since you can’t drive golf carts on highway 361 that means there are a handful of restaurants, shops, and vacation rentals without golf cart access.  You will need to drive your car to them instead. Don’t miss a visit to the shops at Town Center just because you can’t get there by cart and Jay’s Seafood & Spaghetti Works is worth the car drive as well.

With this in mind make sure your vacation beach house is golf cart accessible. Most are but some are located on the North side of Highway 361 between Avenue G and Beach Access Rd 1 making accessibility complicated. There are only a few legal golf cart crossings to cross over the highway. Most golf cart companies won’t rent to that area due to the liability of a low-speed golf cart crossing the highway. Safety First!

Besides driving your cart to the beach here is a list of fun things to do on your golf cart cruise.

  • Golf cart cruise to the Jetty.

    • You can see the turtles and jellyfish that like to hang out at the jetties. The turtles will come right up to the edge of the jetty rocks because they like to eat the moss that grows on them.
    • For a fun new experience you can also walk down toward the end of the jetty. The waves will roll by and splash up onto the rocks. The water is powerful so use good judgment on rough sea days as the water is strong and can knock you down and be mindful as the rocks can be slippery.
  • Golf cart cruise to the Marina & Roberts Point Park

    • Enjoy viewing the various boats at the Marina and watch as giant ships pass through our poot
    • Do a little fishing in the channel
    • Kiddos can play at the expansive playground
    • Eat lunch under the shaded picnic tables or pavilions
    • Keep an eye out for the dolphins that enjoy the channel. The dolphins like to play in the wake of the large ships and are usually seen near the ferry crossings as well.
  • Spend the day on a golf cart cruise around town

    • I would suggest just cruising around and seeing what grabs your eye. The main streets to cruise would be Allister, Cotter, Beach St, and Avenue G/Cutoff Rd. We will do another blog on all our favorite shops!
  • Golf cart cruise to Nature Areas

    • Leonabelle Turnbull  Birding Center is accessible by golf cart and located at the end of Ross Avenue with an expansive view of our precious wetlands and many different wildlife and bird species. Be on the lookout for “Boots” our long-time Port A local Alligator. He likes to hang out right under the boardwalk!
    • Take a nice golf cart cruise down Port St. along the channel where it ends at the 1,200-acre Charlie’s Pasture Nature Preserve. Enjoy the pavilion and walking trails, do some fishing in the channel, and enjoy the views.
