Harvest Moon Regatta
This year will be the 35th annual Harvest Moon Regatta.
The Harvest Moon Regatta event has been hosted by the Lakewood Yacht Club of Seabrook, TX since 1987. The offshore sailing race starts in Galveston and ends with a big party in Port Aransas. The race welcomes seasoned racers, chill cruising teams, and newbies ready to get into the scene.Â
Lakewood Yacht Club is located on Clear Lake in Seabrook, Texas with direct access to Galveston Bay connected to the Gulf of Mexico. This Yacht club offers its members many sailing and boating activities. They also have an award-winning youth club.

How it started
Most yacht clubs hang out and talk about using their boats more and the club of 1987 was doing the same but this time they put the gears in motion. They got organized and got planning. It was no more just drinking around the yacht club bar dreaming of boater days. Lakewood Yacht Club members John Cameron, sail maker, Ed Bailey, a competitive racer, John Broderick, a club officer, presented the idea to the board of directors and the Houston Yacht Club, TX Corinthian Yacht Club, and the Galveston Bay Cruising Association.Â
They charted the course and the first year had 17 boats in the race with multiple stops including Port Isabel and the Seabrook marker but hurricanes caused damage to that original route. Nowadays the race is in its groove racing straight through the Intercoastal Waterway from Galveston to Port Aransas with a whopping 200+ boats.

The Harvest Moon Regatta is held every year under the October full moon.Â
Harvest Moon Regatta Race Schedule
The race leaves Galveston Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 2 pm.
They are due in at the Port Aransas Marina by Saturday, October 8th at 1 pm. You can expect to see the boats sailing as early as Saturday morning. That afternoon is when the celebration and shenanigans begin including the Sailor Rum Party and BBQ followed by their awards ceremony.Â
Where to watch Harvest Moon Regatta
Anywhere with a view of the Marina the morning of Saturday October 8th will be a great place to watch the boats roll in! It would be a great picnic at Roberts Point Park kind of morning. Pack a breakfast, bring the kids and watch as they race to the finish line.Â
